A concept pioneered at Australia’s Queensland University of Technology, these workstations, known at QUT as MoCoWS, have helped QUT cut the cost of their classroom technology systems by 70%, while increasing the physical flexibility of the spaces.

QUT uses their units in “flexible zones,” large open spaces where students congregate to work on projects outside of class. The workstations contain a PC, a large monitor, and the TeamSpot software; students simply wheel them into place at their table, turn them on and get to work. “Students and lecturers can use loan laptops and MoCoWs to form breakout spaces, such as mini boardrooms, to accommodate a range of learning activities,” explains Dr. Gordon Howell of QUT.
